Personality analysis: Getting to know the real you

Are you a head turner?

Is your wardrobe up-to-date?

Do you have felicitous fashion sense?

If you find yourself nodding to all of these questions, then you may be the envy of others. However, there are those who possess these characteristics yet still feel like there’s a hole that needs to be filled. As an image consultant, I always find clients of this predicament. This could mean one of many reasons, including a lack of understanding of their true identity. This is often neglected, but knowing your true self is essential in understanding your existence and your level of confidence. Digging deeper into that empty space can mean the discovery of the answers you’ve been searching for.

When you analyze and recognize your true personality, you will uncover your real self-image. For instance, your lifestyle and career define the clothes and shoes you wear or the amount of make-up you have to put on.

David Borchard, Ed.D. NCC, affirms that ‘assessment’ is one of the keys to finding yourself. This includes identifying your “sources of passion” by thinking of the activities that perk you up (e.g., learning, leisure, and work). Determining these activities would also give way in discovering other potentials in your life, like untapped skills and interests.

In conclusion, here are some words of wisdom from Lou Habash’s directory of quotes. This one is from Maxwell Maltz, which goes: “Our self-image, strongly held, essentially determines what we become.”

Self-image: Creating better impressions

As an image consultant, I regret to see people reeling from the burden of feeling that they are not good enough for others. This may actually stem from an overall lack of positive self-impression, which affects their body movements, language tone, or facial expressions. I say that to succeed and gain respect from others, people must improve the way they see themselves.

People who work on enhancing their self-image will undoubtedly feel better than before even as they face life’s challenges. This is because good self-esteem springs from positive self-image. They can make better decisions, encouraging others to think and work positively, too. Subsequently, confidence will follow suit.

With that note, how can individuals develop better self-image? Here are five points to consider based on this article:

1. Comparing oneself to others never helps boost one’s self-image.

2. Being a team player and getting along with others is a plus.

3. Getting involved in worthwhile activities helps one feel fulfilled.

4. Attending self-enhancement classes, joining workshops, or enrolling in career-advancement seminars gives one an edge.

5. Concentrating on the niceties of life and putting the negatives on the sidelines foster a positive attitude.

While there’s no smooth road to creating a good impression, there are several options to take, such as those listed above. As what one of Lou Habash’s philosophies puts it: Change is possible at the proper timing and with the right attitude.
