In today’s fast-paced world, etiquette seems to be a thing of the past. However, etiquette concerns far more than the proper placement of fork, the monogramming of stationery, and the use of a handkerchief.
Manners and etiquette are important because they build character and self-esteem, as well as create a positive environment. Moreover, they serve as ways on showing other people respect, especially in a professional setting. Though some actions are now considered old-fashioned, good manners, in general, will never be outdated.
Here are some examples of good manners and etiquette that must be observed even today:
Work etiquette
Business etiquette is about presenting yourself in the best light possible and showing people that you’re good at what you’re doing. This includes being punctual, listening to others, appearing professional and well-groomed, and finishing work assignments on time. Work etiquette also includes being gracious and courteous when speaking to colleagues, as well as making calls as soon as needed and promptly returning calls. More importantly, expressions such as “sorry” and “thank you” should not be forgotten.
